Chris Minifie, under the moniker of c64, consistently chooses to push the boundaries of electronic dance music, and remains a constant figure on the underground breakcore / DnB scene.

Known for his hard hitting sets filled with complex drum work, wild mixing skills and creativity, c64 has emerged as one of the most unique breakcore dj`s, often blending the full spectrum of breakcore / jungle / DnB along with other genres and styles into his sets. His range of styles is evident with the range of artists he has performed alongside with, including Amon Tobin, Luke Vibert, Shitmat, Knifehandchop, Jason Forrest, Plaid, Breakage, Klute, Blame, Panacea and Enduser.

Having toured in support of Knifehandchop (USA 2002), a European tour backing Venetian Snares (May 2005), as well as individual European and Japan tours in 2006 and 2007, including his first performance in Russia (July 2007), c64 has firmly entrenched his mark on the international scene. In addition to this, c64 has performed at such well known international events as the Wasted Festival in Berlin, Donau Festival in Austria, Bangface and Technicality in London, Kamikaze Warfare in Rennes, North by Northeast in Toronto, DEMF in Detroit and Murder Channel in Tokyo.

In 2004, c64 was signed to France-based breakcore label Peace Off Records, resulting in the labels first dj mix CD titled "Transitional Days". This explosive 29 track, live-studio dj mix CD, showcases the obvious raw skill and energy poured into his dj sets.

On top of a busy dj schedule, c64 also operates two distinctly different record labels, Dross:tik Records and Make:Shift Records. Dross:tik, formed in 2002, is a label focused around the evolving sounds of breakcore and experimental electronics, while Make:shift Records, started in 2003, delves deep into the sounds of left-field DnB and downtempo / breakbeat. Both labels work on a similar format, with vinyl releases geared towards dj oriented music, while the CD releases tend to focus on artist concept albums that reach outside the scope of conventional breakcore and DnB.

A fixture on the Toronto underground scene and co-operator of Splinter Productions, c64 has been instrumental in the development of breakcore and left-field DnB in Toronto, staging numerous events over the past 7 years featuring international and local artists.

Respected for his absolute devotion to the music and humble approach to the dj`ing, c64 continues to push forward in his performance-based pursuit of creative, challenging and energetic dance music.

oh snap, EYE-D gets busy with the employee referral bonus program! our slammingest new artist by the name of CONRAD HOYER.

we be swiping bios from discogs left and right son:

Using keyboards and cassette recorders Conrad Hoyer started recording his first songs and mixes in 1993, 11 years old at the time. By 1995 hardcore music had become very infuential for the Dutch youth and he started using computer software to write hardcore songs. With the artists of the Ruffneck label as main lead he worked on perfecting his technique, specialising in fast, breakbeat-orriented juno-sound hardcore. In 1998 DJ Ruffneck was convinced of Conrad's talent after recieving a 4 track cd-demo, and asked him if he would like to join his labels Gangsta and Supreme Intelligence. And thus at 16 years old Conrad became the youngest artist to join the crew. The period '98-'00 can be seen as a learning period in which Conrad released a few records as Trypticon and a few more tracks as Ophidian, but was still struggling to be consistent and to find an own place within the hardcore scene.

Things changed in 2001. In this year Conrad joined Enzyme Records, started building his own studio and started his studying Music Technology at the Utrecht School of Arts. He decided to drop the Trypticon-project and concentrate on producing as Ophidian, focussing on slower hardcore, with more techno and electronic music influences. Enzyme started a sub-label called Enzyme X on which more experimental hardcore could be released, which came as a blessing because it provided exactly the space that Conrad needed to define himself and his style. From this moment on progression was fast, and he released quite a number of tracks including his first solo-album, Ophidian - Blackbox, in 2003.

Now Conrad has finished his study and as Bachelor of Music Composition and Production he faces a future in the music bussiness, as a producer mixing and mastering, as DJ and live performer, but still mainly as artist exploring the more experimental areas of hardcore, techno and electronic music.

As of the summer of 2005, Ophidian runs his own label called Meta4.

Click the image above to see a video clip of the legend Ron Murphy mastering the first Davros record. When I arrived for the cutting appointment, Ron opened the door recognized me and let out a hearty laugh and said "Glad to see the last record didn't get you arrested!"

The first 10 Low Res records were mastered at the hands of Ron Murphy over a period of about 4-5 years. You could send in your master recordings and Ron would do the work, and send it off and the process of record making had begun, but that was a faceless automated process. People came from all over the world to watch Ron work in person. Spending an afternoon at Sound Enterprises was like going to church to hear the gospel if you were a fan of techno, vinyl, and it's processes. This guy had seen it all. Listening to him talk was beyond priceless. Whether it was hearing the history of the looping lock groove, or his amusement with, and total respect for, Kurt Eckes and Lenny Dee. Two other pioneers who also used Ron for mastering. The guy was a legend, and everyone knew it, that's why we all mastered there. If you're a fan of "the game", and you love vinyl, Ron Murphy was simply one of the biggest key players behind the scenes to electronic music making all around the world.

His performances are legendary... ask anyone who was around in '99 when he laid waste to legions of the midwest faithful at Even Furthur. He's released dozens of records on highly regarded labels like SixSixtySix, Surgeon16, Brutal Chud, and his own Suburban Trash. We're proud to present a live set by one of the most influential and enduring figures in contemporary electronic music - Noize Creator.

DAVROS vs. UNIBOMBER
The Final Amiga 500 Battle
Live // Low Res, Addict, Distort, Noizetek // Madison, Chicago
Davros (aka Abelcain) is one of the most ferociously creative people in experimental music. He built an entire release out of Dr. Who samples and composed a suite for harpsichord! Davros returns to his Amiga 500 roots to face off against his arch-nemesis, the dreaded Unibomber, with whom a legendary battled was waged at the original Schizophrenia in 1997. In case you don't remember, Unibomber supplied classic cuts of midwest hardcore, including Sadist and Alcoholic, to the early Distort releases... then quietly disappeared into the darkness. Now he's back to settle the score in an 8-bit grudge match 10 years in the making!

DOORMOUSE
Addict, Distort, Sublight // Miami
Since releasing his first record on Digital Hut in 1996, Doormouse has provided a nonstop barrage of retard beats and farting sounds. During the last decade he tore shit up at Schizophrenia, unleashed the Addict family of record labels on the world, made the barn famous, fronted the infamous MEAT project and released albums on Cock Rock Disco, Planet-mu, Violent Turd, Sublight and Hymen! He also moved to Miami.... Oh well, nobody's perfect. From the heart of the Midwest, via the penis shaped state in the south, comes the one man David Lee Roth cover band who furnished every home with Skelechairs.

FISHEAD
Northern Hardcorps // Montreal
He was from Winnipeg before anyone had heard of the place, and left before most could find it on a map. Ever the musical explorer, Fishead has had a techno radio show in Barcelona, been part of an audio listening installation in Oklahoma City and brought his own brand of chaos wherever he's set down his record bag. The man who brought Canadian hardcore to the Midwest, and the founder of the Northern Hardcorps, we welcome the return of Schizophrenia veteran Fishead.

XANOPTICON
Live // Thac0, Zhark, Hymen // Pittsburgh
Just when it would defy the laws of physics for the sound to become any more brutal or simultaneously intricate, Pittsburgh's globe-trotting Xanopticon jacks in and blasts off, sucker-punching your soul while destroying your mind... and to think, he's downed twice as many Chimays.

FANNY
Live // Sublight, Girlcum, Noizetek // Winnipeg
It's a prairie home invasion! Since taking time out to explain fear and loathing for dummies, Fanny has been using his own manufactured madness to inflict awareness on unenlightened masses worldwide. Once known for being a former member of The Exploited, the Glasgow tempest in a teapot is now better known for being his own damn self - the original Shoebomb Hurricane!

CUTUPS
Wrecked, Thac0, Rhinoplex // Pittsburgh
Long before there was Wrecked Distribution, there was PBS - a handful of nuts that brought some of the giants of the scene through Pittsburgh. No one really knows what the letters stood for, but we all came to realize that PBS meant Pittsburgh Breakcore Shows. Over the past decade Cutups has increased his stature and become a giant himself. On December first, he takes a break from making sure people can get the music into the comfort of their own homes and steps behind the decks to feed you what you truly need.

IN BROKEN KEY
Live // No Room For Talent // Akron
It's not day, and it's not night - it's kinda half-night - and I'm scared like I can't tell ya. There's a broken lamp, a piano ashtray, a blue box and a strange key, and that voice inside is telling me that something bad is happening... and then it hits me. It's him - the man behind this place. He's the one that's been doing it all along. Now comes the time to bear witness - the rise of In Broken Key.

ADJUST
Low Res // Detroit
Low Res has released some of the most fiercely original electronic music the world has ever seen - all under the watchful eye of Adjust. A's 4 FAQ's
1. Don't ASK if we're accepting demos, either send it or don't. We are ALWAYS accepting demos. The address is at the bottom of every page on this website. Don't try to start a dialogue about how this is your first demo or your last demo. We won't respond. We avoid everybody equally.

2. If you send a demo and don't get a reply, it doesn't mean we hate you, so don't take it personally. Even if we do like your demo, it will probably take longer than expected to receive a reply, possibly even a year or more. We are very busy monkeys and we have no concept of time. In fact, on certain days, we're quite convinced time doesn't exist.

3. If you send an email (non-demo related) and SERIOUSLY expect a reply, use a clever subject line and possibly something eye-catching like ALL CAPS. Otherwise it will be deleted in a flood of spam by our very clever spambot annihilation filters. Our robots are smarter than your robots. So if you must, abuse@lowres.com.

4. LOW RES is TWO WORDS. A common typo, obviously. If we could put a space in our domain name, it'd be there, but we can't, so it isn't. Don't take it literally.

5. Yes, the Low Res store has a Paypal account for accepting payment. abuse@lowres.com. Be sure to include order information with your paypal payment.

6. If you receive defective merchandise from the Low Res store (i.e. cracked, broken, damaged products), please contact Earl Scheib for cheap repair estimates.

7. Ebaying our records? Good luck.

8. We forget what 8 was for.

9. If you are between the ages of 18 and 54, can commute to Detroit, MI, USA on a regular basis (not necessarily every day), and are highly motivated, capable, and get it, then you could qualify as an intern. Being able to read, write, and spell your own name will help.

10. We love Detroit. We have always loved Detroit, and we will be here when the Superbowl is long over and General Motors has gone bankrupt.

Formed by JC (known also as Christoph De Babalon, he did releases for Alec Empire's Digital Hardcore Recordings, Fischkopf, FatCat, Zhark and Tigerbeat6. He runs Cross Fade Entertainment (CFET), a label that released n1tro, Zbigniew Karkowski, DJ Scud, Merzbow, I-f, Somatic Responses and Unit Moebius) and GC (graduated in jazzguitar at the Kunstuniversität in Graz/Austria in 1999, he was a student of Harry Pepl and Karl Ratzer. Since 1990 he has participated in several bands, multimedia performance projects and releases including Austrian Audience V/A and 95h Farmers Manual) Ubergang is the representation of their own music vision: extreme, free from boundaries and energetic. The duo in their debut 12" E.P. released by Low Res present four tracks where gabber and grime are their basement where other style such as free jazz, industrial metal a la Godflesh or ambient experimentations find space. Each track has different and radical changes. Pick up the closing one "Fallout": it starts with an electronic ambient background, after 90" a grime/gabber rhythm is added and then at 3'43" the rhythm changes taking a linear form, a distorted guitar starts to play dissonant melodies and the synth turns into a bass line. You know that I like when bands blend different genres into a powerful mixture and Ubergang are good at it!

LOW RES is extremely proud to announce the addition of new artists ÜBERGANG to the
factory team roster and their headcrushingly boombastic release, the 'Fear Leader' 12" ep. Everyone loves this record, the pope definitely loves this record. Four smashing
tracks of the freshest breakbeat manipulation and annihilation, delivered with an
innovation we've come to expect these days from the hotbed that is Berlin. Featuring
members GG + JC (aka Christoph de Babalon), this is all-out audio warfare with
exquisite production and superior engineering. Übergang are definitely worth watching, as it seems they can slay any ears they come in contact with, and don't say we didn't tell you so.

Assume greatness, and ready your listening sensibility for seduction. Übergang is the real deal and taking over the world with an iron fist!

Ben, Sam and Tom aka the Zod crew 2002, were the first gang to rock the Armchair Vacation Series at Third Street Saloon in the summer of 2002. They rooled it. Mister Curtis Chip tore the place up like newspaper, he was peddling some sickeningly furious funky shit from his music contraption things. Curtis Chip rules. Zod Records rule, and you should well know this by now. Go buy some and or all of their records now.
