In the June 2009 issue, Himawari received a landslide 78% of the vote to lock down the experimental category, flattening the competition with a brutal KO in the first round! AWESOME.
[7:39 am] Lowest Moments, a mixed compilation of tracks on the Low Res label, mixed by C64. This is a mash-up of 26 tracks from the excellent Low Res in Detroit, mixing sounds of hardcore breakbeat, industrial, and speed-glitch, touching most of the major releases from the label's first ten years in operation.

[7:46 am] In the first four tracks on this, C64 has brought together label head Adjust, Venetian Snares, Bombardier, and I:Gor, all easily identifiable as Low Res artists and all classics in their own rights. A record like Lowest Moments makes me want to immediately purchase the entire back catalog. I'm going to resist this time, but so far this album has been all gravy.

LINK TO FULL REVIEW AT IGLOO MAGAZINE
[7:49 am] The punishing breaks at the end of I:Gor's "Happy Mechanical Unit" lead directly to the vacuum cleaner-bass tone and overdriven snare of Kamphetamine's "Exorcism Threshold," and early classic from Low Res sub-label Division 13. This goes into the mighty "Forsaken" from underground power-star Abelcain, one of my personal favourite Low Res artists.

[7:58 am] Starting to feel a little fatigued, like maybe I should have slept a little bit later into the morning. C'est la vie. C64 is on the decks and I'm getting jolted out of my stupor with this disc. Really digging how C64 manages the mood and tempo in his track selections and mixing. Like all good DJ's, he knows when to take it down a notch or two and when to crash the faders all the way up and blow everything out. Really expert control of the vinyl here. Currently on the Adjust remix of Delien's "Aon." Delien always reminded me of what Skinny Puppy should have turned into after Last Rights, instead of what they became on The Process. They should have kept it digital. Adjust remixes their track sympathetical to that. And C64 takes it to the next level by seamlessly mixing it with Tarmvred's "Oskulden." Not 10 tracks into this CD and we're hitting all the right high notes in the Low Res catalog. Other artists included in this mix are Davros, Theeq, Ubergang, Cdatakill, and Kero. All excellent on their own (Davros, especially), here they become the ultimate hardcore DJ party. This disc could be 12 hours long and it would keep me moving.

[8:22 am] Really not much more to say about this album that wouldn't be repetitive, but C64 is in top form using the Low Res catalog as building blocks for Lowest Moments. There is a superb mastery of mood and tempo that wouldn't be as effective should the same tracks be used in the same fashion for another mix by another mixer. Low Res is one of the best underground labels going, and a true shining star for the city of Detroit - an innovative underdog that takes what the city gives and spins it into genius.

"Lowest Moments" a breathtaking album mixed by C64. Twenty-six tracks, the complete Low Res catalogue mixed perfectly together to a nonesuch journey into the history and magic moments of this great label. Mixing these tracks together to a mix seems to be impossible, but not for C64. He represents the tracks in a new context and let them shine in a new light. A real masterpiece. The timing and sequencing is perfect and the way he merges these tracks together is unbelievable. He leaves each track enough space to show its personality, but he also mixes all together to a great piece of music. A monolithic soundtrack for the apocalypse. I know that a lot of people, think that Breakcore is a musical style that can only be heard in dark cellars and strange guys dancing around - this mix proves that black is white. Intelligent music with message and soul, building headmovies and musical landscapes.

This is a must have - a perfect ten album, not just for those who love Breakcore!

Chris Minifie, under the moniker of c64, consistently chooses to push the boundaries of electronic dance music, and remains a constant figure on the underground breakcore / DnB scene.

Known for his hard hitting sets filled with complex drum work, wild mixing skills and creativity, c64 has emerged as one of the most unique breakcore dj`s, often blending the full spectrum of breakcore / jungle / DnB along with other genres and styles into his sets. His range of styles is evident with the range of artists he has performed alongside with, including Amon Tobin, Luke Vibert, Shitmat, Knifehandchop, Jason Forrest, Plaid, Breakage, Klute, Blame, Panacea and Enduser.

Having toured in support of Knifehandchop (USA 2002), a European tour backing Venetian Snares (May 2005), as well as individual European and Japan tours in 2006 and 2007, including his first performance in Russia (July 2007), c64 has firmly entrenched his mark on the international scene. In addition to this, c64 has performed at such well known international events as the Wasted Festival in Berlin, Donau Festival in Austria, Bangface and Technicality in London, Kamikaze Warfare in Rennes, North by Northeast in Toronto, DEMF in Detroit and Murder Channel in Tokyo.

In 2004, c64 was signed to France-based breakcore label Peace Off Records, resulting in the labels first dj mix CD titled "Transitional Days". This explosive 29 track, live-studio dj mix CD, showcases the obvious raw skill and energy poured into his dj sets.

On top of a busy dj schedule, c64 also operates two distinctly different record labels, Dross:tik Records and Make:Shift Records. Dross:tik, formed in 2002, is a label focused around the evolving sounds of breakcore and experimental electronics, while Make:shift Records, started in 2003, delves deep into the sounds of left-field DnB and downtempo / breakbeat. Both labels work on a similar format, with vinyl releases geared towards dj oriented music, while the CD releases tend to focus on artist concept albums that reach outside the scope of conventional breakcore and DnB.

A fixture on the Toronto underground scene and co-operator of Splinter Productions, c64 has been instrumental in the development of breakcore and left-field DnB in Toronto, staging numerous events over the past 7 years featuring international and local artists.

Respected for his absolute devotion to the music and humble approach to the dj`ing, c64 continues to push forward in his performance-based pursuit of creative, challenging and energetic dance music.

oh snap, EYE-D gets busy with the employee referral bonus program! our slammingest new artist by the name of CONRAD HOYER.

we be swiping bios from discogs left and right son:

Using keyboards and cassette recorders Conrad Hoyer started recording his first songs and mixes in 1993, 11 years old at the time. By 1995 hardcore music had become very infuential for the Dutch youth and he started using computer software to write hardcore songs. With the artists of the Ruffneck label as main lead he worked on perfecting his technique, specialising in fast, breakbeat-orriented juno-sound hardcore. In 1998 DJ Ruffneck was convinced of Conrad's talent after recieving a 4 track cd-demo, and asked him if he would like to join his labels Gangsta and Supreme Intelligence. And thus at 16 years old Conrad became the youngest artist to join the crew. The period '98-'00 can be seen as a learning period in which Conrad released a few records as Trypticon and a few more tracks as Ophidian, but was still struggling to be consistent and to find an own place within the hardcore scene.

Things changed in 2001. In this year Conrad joined Enzyme Records, started building his own studio and started his studying Music Technology at the Utrecht School of Arts. He decided to drop the Trypticon-project and concentrate on producing as Ophidian, focussing on slower hardcore, with more techno and electronic music influences. Enzyme started a sub-label called Enzyme X on which more experimental hardcore could be released, which came as a blessing because it provided exactly the space that Conrad needed to define himself and his style. From this moment on progression was fast, and he released quite a number of tracks including his first solo-album, Ophidian - Blackbox, in 2003.

Now Conrad has finished his study and as Bachelor of Music Composition and Production he faces a future in the music bussiness, as a producer mixing and mastering, as DJ and live performer, but still mainly as artist exploring the more experimental areas of hardcore, techno and electronic music.

As of the summer of 2005, Ophidian runs his own label called Meta4.
