Click the image above to see a video clip of the legend Ron Murphy mastering the first Davros record. When I arrived for the cutting appointment, Ron opened the door recognized me and let out a hearty laugh and said "Glad to see the last record didn't get you arrested!"
The first 10 Low Res records were mastered at the hands of Ron Murphy over a period of about 4-5 years. You could send in your master recordings and Ron would do the work, and send it off and the process of record making had begun, but that was a faceless automated process. People came from all over the world to watch Ron work in person. Spending an afternoon at Sound Enterprises was like going to church to hear the gospel if you were a fan of techno, vinyl, and it's processes. This guy had seen it all. Listening to him talk was beyond priceless. Whether it was hearing the history of the looping lock groove, or his amusement with, and total respect for, Kurt Eckes and Lenny Dee. Two other pioneers who also used Ron for mastering. The guy was a legend, and everyone knew it, that's why we all mastered there. If you're a fan of "the game", and you love vinyl, Ron Murphy was simply one of the biggest key players behind the scenes to electronic music making all around the world.
